4x4 Route
On a clear day the trail will offer you a magnificent view over the vast stretches of the Karoo and the Mountains and valleys of the Cedarberg. Look for detail and you will find some of the very rare reptiles and birds of this area. In certain areas you are sure to see some wild game, from the small steenbok to the largest Eland and cheeky baboon. If you are very lucky you might even see some caracal or mountain leopard.

From the middle of August to middle November you will normally find many flowers, a paradise for botanists and nature lovers. Summer months (December to the end of February) may be very hot with very little or no shade. Winter months (June - August) may vary from mild to very cold with frost and even snow on high lying areas. Temperatures also vary greatly from the high lying to the low lying camping sites with the latter generally ±8 °C warmer.

The route is more than 100km long in total and it is best to travel together with another vehicle. Normally you won’t do all the sections of the road and therefore one night is sufficient. If you really want to enjoy nature however - you can stay as long as you like. If you start from Kagga Kamma reception, the route slowly descends from 3800 ft above sea level to ± 1200feet in the Ceres Karoo, it is mostly quite relaxing but there are a few very steep sections.
